Zomi International Network (ZONET) is a Canadian not-for-profit international development organization based in Calgary, Canada. ZONET is federally incorporated under Canada Not-for-profit Act.
The mission of Zomi International Network is to undertake research and take action in promoting social justice, the rule of law and sustainable development in Myanmar and India's Manipur and Mizoram States.
Climate change is real. Temperatures are rising, rainfall patterns are shifting, glaciers and snow are melting, and the global mean sea level is rising. We expect that these changes will continue, and that extreme weather events resulting in hazards such as floods and droughts will become more frequent and intense.
A growing disconnect between citizens and government â€“ complicated by the challenges of financial strains, demographic changes, diminishing social capital, and increasing demands from citizens â€“ has renewed the need for local leaders to revisit issues of democracy and governance.
Economic empowerment allows people to think beyond immediate daily survival and to exercise greater control over both their resources and life choices. For example, it enables households to make their own decisions around making investments in health and education, and taking risks in order to increase their income.
