Zomi International Network will observe and adhere to the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and promote the moral and material welfare of Zomi.

Enhance the capabilities of Zomi to meet the needs of the present generation without compromising the needs of the future.

Transform the Zomi societies into a united, democratic and free society.

Restore and conserve Zo culture and literature, and natural resources in Zogam.

Reverse the process of marginalization of Zomi in India, Burma and Bangladesh and bridge our differences.

 

Environment and Biodiversity


 Train Zomi in sustainable management of natural resources;

 Protect and rehabilitate vulnerable ecosystems;

 Prevent water, air and land pollution;

 Pursue reforestation programs and cultivation of medicinal plants;

 Protect rare species of animals and plants;

 Promote environmental education and awareness;

 Develop eco-friendly tourism


International Relationship


In our international policy, ZoNet will not align itself with the policy and ideology of any other nation. It will maintain friendly relation with the government in the countries we presence. ZoNet will maintain harmonious relations with international organizations, based on equality and mutual benefit. It will renounce hostility and promote friendly relations with all nations.


Development


With international development assistance and investment, the Zomi have the potential to become economically self-sufficient and to preserve their culture, traditions and unique way of life. While their needs are great, coordinated international involvement can have a major impact on Zomi's standard of living. We strongly believe that it is essential Zomi around the world  intricately involve in the development of Zomi and Zogam.




BYLAW

 

 

Article I. Name, Logo and Acronym of the Organization

 

The name of the organization is Zomi International Network. The Acronym is ZONET or ZoNet. The logo of ZoNet is a picture of hornbill with the globe in the background, and the full name of the organization.

 

Article II. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

 

1. To inform, inspire and involve the Zomis around the world building

unity and a better future for their home land.

2. To advance awareness of human rights, democracy and

environmental issues among Zomi.

3. To empower Zomi communities around the world through electronic

and print media.

 

Article III. MEMBERSHIP

 

There are 3 types of membership. All members must provide their full name, Place of birth and city and country of residence.

 

1. Online Members

Online members are who subscribes to ZoNet’s mailing list and ZoNet’s website. Online members can post and receive messages from other members.

2. Regular Members

To become regular members, one must fill up Membership Form and summit completed form. They can vote and participate in ZoNet Committee. Regular members who paid membership fees are entitled to receive ZoNet’s publications without charge.

3. Honorary Members

Honorary Members are individuals who have significant contributions for Zomis and are duly nominated and elected by ZoNet Executive Board.

4. Resignation and Expulsion or Suspension Membership will be revoked with the consent of Executive Board if a member is found violating the rules and regulation of ZoNet. Resignation from membership must be submitted by writing to the Executive Board.

 

Article IV – Organization Structure

 

1. Executive Board

Executive Board shall be comprised of 5 to 9 members which includes, President, Vice President(s), General Secretary, Treasurer and three Regional Representatives from different continents.

2. Supporting Committees and Appointed Officers

The Executive Board will form committees and officers for different projects such as, Program Directors, Project Officers, Moderators, Webmasters, and Editors.

 

Article V: Supporting Committees

 

ZoNet committees are groups of member the ZoNet Executive Board puts together to perform, and provide recommendations on specific areas of operation.

 

1. Formation

The Executive Board may form a new committee at any time, by appointing a committee chair. The committee chair is in charge of keeping track of his/her committee's membership. Anyone may join any committee they like. The committee chair may also call as many meetings as they feel are necessary to get the job done, but is advised to make sure the members that are interested can attend. If a committee chair doesn't feel up to the task, they should request the President to choose another person to chair the committee and resign.

 

2. Dissolution

The Executive Board may dissolve a committee at any time. It is recommended that committees that have completed their assigned task, or whose task is found to be unachievable, be dissolved. This decision to dissolve a committee may be overruled by a majority vote of the

committee's members.

 

 

Article VI: General Meeting and Election of Directors

 

ZONET regular /registered members shall elect members of Executive Board at the General Meeting. The term of the elected members shall be 3 years. The General Meeting will be held once in 3 years where member decided to be held. It is advisable to have General Meeting in different regions so that more members can participate. Meeting dates will be agreed upon by members of the Board in advance. If a large number of members have an objection to the date of a meeting, the President can choose a different date, but this should ideally be taken care of prior to the publication of announcements and the agenda. The location should also be agreed upon based on input by the members.

 

Article VII - Liability of Members

 

ZoNet members should remember that they are representing ZoNet, and not behave in a manner that may tarnish ZoNet's image. Differing views and ideas should be treated with dignity and respect. ZoNet will hold no liability for an act of crime committed by members.

 

VIII. Abdication

 

In the event that a member of the Board is unable to continue in their position they would give the board of directors a notice in written. And the board will make nominations and elections for a replacement. If a member absent from the group’s activities without informing others for a period of 1 month, they will be considered to have abdicated, and nominations will be opened immediately for a replacement.

 

Article IX: Constitution

 

The article of Association, the constitution or bylaws will be used alternatively.

1. Location

The constitution shall be publicly posted on ZoNet website and distribute to members in electronic and, or print format.

2. Amendment

Anyone can bring up an amendment to the constitution at any time. The amendment will be addressed during the discussion period of the meeting. In the absence of objection to voting, a vote will take place immediately. Otherwise voting will take place at the next meeting. A 2/3 majority will pass the amendment.

3. Sudo

This constitution may be temporarily suspended with the consent of Executive Board, members are strongly cautioned against abuse of this power; if tempted to use it more than once for the same thing, consider amending the bylaws.

4. Small Change Clause

The Executive Board can make small changes to the bylaws. The scope of these changes is defined by: (a) Spelling, punctuation, formatting and change of wording are always fair game as long as it doesn't change the

general meaning of the bylaw being changed. (b)Minor additions and deletions will need to be brought to an informal vote by all the officers (majority wins) to see if the change is minor enough to implement without a general vote.

 

Article X: AUDITING

 

The books, accounts and records of the Secretary and Treasurer shall be audited at least once each year by a duly qualified accountant or by two members of the Board elected for that purpose. A complete and proper statement of the standing of the books for the previous year shall be submitted by such auditor. The fiscal year of the society in each year shall be January 1 – December 31. Each member of the Board shall at all times have access to such books and records.

 

Article XI: Grievances

 

Anyone with a grievance against committee chair, board of directors, another member or ZoNet as a whole is asked to first try to resolve the matter informally with the person(s) involved. If this fails, however, they are invited to institute a formal grievance to the Executive Board of Directors. When instituting a formal grievance, it is advisable to write down all facts (and feelings) pertinent to the grievance, as well as some possible suggestions on how to resolve the grievance. Resolution of a grievance will be done by the Executive Board of Directors.
